The Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra is comprised of 89 extremely talented middle school and high school students. The musicians are outstanding students who not only receive accolades in music, but have won National Math, Science, and Literature awards, and excel at every endeavor.
In 1958, the Western New York Youth Orchestra was formed by Dr. Robert Mols,
and in 1973 the name was changed to the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra. In its 48
year history, it has performed under Pamela Gearhart, John Landis, David Miller,
Ansgarius Aylward, and currently Dr. Gerard Floriano. Under Dr. Floriano, the orchestra tours annually within the United States and has also toured internationally.
In addition to its regular 3-concert season, the GBYO plays an annual Side-by-side concert with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Now in its 49th season, the GBYO is one of the most prestigious youth orchestras in the United States. The musicians in the orchestra are each exemplary teenagers who excel in their many musical and non-musical ventures. These young people all have big dreams, high goals, and great success.
