07/15 11:57 - Student Honored With Bethesda Foundation Fellowship Attends Summer Research Program

Rohan Virdee has received a Bethesda Foundation Fellowship to attend the Summer Research Participation Program in Science for Young Scholars at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in Buffalo, NY. The fellowship is awarded to outstanding science students from the Hornell, NY, area.

Virdee is studying in the laboratory of Zhou Wang, PhD, Department of Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park. “I am extremely grateful to be chosen to receive the Bethesda Foundation Fellowship award. As I work in the laboratory of Dr. Wang, I know I will become familiar with the basics of scientific research, such as data collection and analysis, and I will continue to develop such personal skills as self-discipline and time management. Attending the Summer Research Participation Program at Roswell Park is an invaluable experience that will support my lifelong goal of pursuing a career in medicine,” said Virdee.

This summer marks the 57th annual Research Participation Program in Science for Young Scholars at RPCI. More than 75 high school, college, and medical students will study at the Institute this summer. The seven-week session exposes students to an atmosphere of intense research by combining actual laboratory work with lectures and seminars. The students will complete the experience by presenting an oral report and poster of their research on August 13. The public is invited to the presentations.

The Bethesda Foundation is a charitable organization devoted to funding and support of health-related projects and scholarships in Hornell, NY.

The Program, established in 1953, is supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute, First Niagara Bank and the Bethesda Foundation of Hornell. To participate, applicants must exhibit high achievement and commitment to the sciences and must have earned honors, equivalent grade point averages and be on a career path in biomedical sciences.
