Niagara Wheatfield Students Go Bald for Bucks

The Falcon Family Goes Bald For Bucks!

Thursday, March 8, 2018

Niagara Wheatfield is Goin' Bald for Bucks for the first time! But just because this was their first year doesn't mean they were new to successful fundraising. The students and teachers raised over $10,500 by the night of their event and still had donations coming in afterwards. The whole school including the softball team, National Honors Society and the advanced marketing class pitched in to host various activities to raise money. They had a bake sale, concession stand and a charity basketball game where the faculty took on the Buffalo Sabres Alumni! Although the students and their teachers had a lot of fun organizing and hosting their Bald for Bucks event, the reason for hosting the event was one that deeply touched everyone in the Falcon Family. The assistant principal and athletic director, Jim Campbell, fought cancer four times and sadly lost his battle this past August. Mr. Campbell left a lasting legacy on Niagara Wheatfield and all those who knew him. While the event was held in his honor, the community came together to support all those who have been affected by cancer in one way or another.

Sarah LoCurto, a student at Niagrara Wheatfield and member of the Yroswell Street Team, brought the idea to one of her teachers shortly after Mr. Campbell passed away. Sarah is very involved in many activites and even started her own organization called Because Char Smiledthat makes paper flowers for patients at Roswell Park who are not allowed to have real flowers due to hospital protocol.

Sarah and her teachers and fellow classmates were able to visit the Entercom studio this week and take a tour and had a pizza party with DJ Anthony after recording some radio lines about their event. Listen to their radio spot here:
