What is Osteosarcoma?

Monday, April 22, 2019

Osteosarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and is most common among children and young adults. Osteosarcoma can be found in any bone but is often seen in long bones such as the femur (thigh bone) or tibia (shinbone).

The first symptom is usually bone or joint pain, which can sometimes be thought to be growing pains. Initially it may come and go but then it will gradually become constant and be accompanied by other symptoms.

A character in the popular novel by John Green, The Fault in Our Stars, suffers from osteosarcoma and ends up meeting his girlfriend in a cancer support group.
