Being a teenage girl, I never realized how many different opportunities there were for me to give back to my community or to make a difference in someone's life. In 2018 I decided to join the Yroswell Street Team, which has given me the chance to help not only the community but also families that may not be able to help themselves because they are dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Two years ago my mom found a lump on her neck. After going to the doctor and being tested, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The idea of someone so close to me having cancer was a shock, because you never think something like that could happen to you or the people you love. After having a personal experience with cancer, I knew I needed to find a way to help other people and their families who were going through the same challenges my family and I did.

Yroswell has given me the chance to do just that. From spreading awareness about cancer at community races, schools and Bisons games all the way to fundraising that features Applebee’s pancake breakfasts, I have been given the chance to lend a helping hand by sharing the idea that no one is alone in this fight against cancer.

Yroswell has given me the chance to meet new people who have the same drive to make a positive change in the lives of others, and has helped me see that I can make a difference in this world just by lending a hand to one person who may really need it. Becoming a Street Teamer has made me realize that no matter what your age, you always can make a change in this world.
