Join the Yroswell Street Team!

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

Yroswell is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing high school students to join the 2018-2019 Yroswell Street Team. If you or someone you know would make a good fit, apply today!

Who are we? The Yroswell Street Team is made up of a group of students from all across Western New York who have a passion for ending cancer. Whether they know someone who has been affected by cancer or just want to help in the community, all of our Street Teamers are united under the common goal to create a world without cancer.

How do we do this? Street Teamers attend various community events throughout the year to help spread awareness about cancer and prevention. Knowledge is power! The more people know about cancer, the more empowered they are. We hand out tip sheets with information about cancer and promote Roswell Park events, like the free skin cancer screening, so people can take action.

Street Teamers also volunteer at Roswell Park’s events to help provide a pleasant experience for patients. Whether it is giving directions or handing out swag bags, the attendees always love to see young people volunteering with a smile on their faces!

The Street Teamers are also required to host a fundraiser to raise money for Roswell Park’s compassionate patient-care programs and innovative research. A fundraiser can be anything from a bake sale or lemonade stand to donating a portion of homecoming ticket sales. It is what you make it!  There are a million great ideas out there and we have fundraising experts to help you every step along the way.

Why should you join? Being part of the Yroswell Street Team not only provides a sense of camaraderie for students but also allows them to build their resume. Aside from volunteering and fundraising, Street Teamers will also learn about social media marketing and event planning. They can even add writing samples to their portfolio by contributing to our blog, Ynews.

Are there other benefits? Yroswell opens the door for students to learn about many other programs at Roswell Park. We have guest speakers talk to the students about the opportunities available to them like the Summer Research Experience Program, Buffalo Healthcare Exploration Program and Summer Volunteer Program.

Applications close Friday, December 7, 2018, and orientation will be held in January. Don’t wait, apply now!
